The Perrin Technique®

An Osteopathic Approach to ME/CFS and post-viral fatigue

What is The Perrin Technique®?

The Perrin Technique® is a specialised osteopathic approach developed by Dr Raymond Perrin, an osteopath and neuroscientist. It is designed to support the body’s lymphatic drainage and neurological function, particularly in individuals experiencing chronic fatigue–related conditions.

The technique is based on the principle that impaired drainage of toxins from the brain and spinal cord may contribute to ongoing symptoms such as fatigue, pain, and cognitive difficulties.

How does the Perrin Technique® work?

The brain produces metabolic waste products that are normally cleared via the glymphatic and lymphatic systems. When this drainage is compromised, toxins may accumulate and interfere with normal nervous system function

The Perrin Technique® uses gentle, hands-on osteopathic techniques to help improve this drainage by:

  • Encouraging lymphatic flow from the head and neck

  • Reducing restrictions in the thoracic spine and rib cage

  • Supporting healthy cranial movement

  • Improving circulation and nervous system balance

What conditions may it help with?

The Perrin Technique® is most commonly used to support people experiencing:

  • ME / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)

  • Long-term or post-viral fatigue

  • Brain fog and concentration difficulties

  • Sleep disturbances

  • Widespread muscle and joint pain

  • Autonomic nervous system imbalance

  • Headaches and migraines

While osteopathic treatment does not claim to cure these conditions, many patients report improvements in symptom management and overall wellbeing.

What happens during an appointment?

A Perrin Technique® appointment typically includes:

  • A detailed case history, including symptom onset and medical background

  • A physical assessment, looking at posture, spinal mobility, lymphatic congestion, and neurological indicators

  • Gentle osteopathic treatment focusing on the spine, rib cage, neck, head, and lymphatic pathways

  • Self-care advice, which may include simple home techniques, posture guidance, and lifestyle support

  • Treatment is always tailored to the patient’s tolerance and energy levels.

Is the Perrin Technique® suitable for everyone?

The Perrin Technique® is generally safe and non-invasive, but it may not be appropriate for everyone. A full assessment is always carried out before treatment to ensure suitability.

This approach can be used alongside conventional medical care and does not replace medical diagnosis or treatment.

How many sessions are needed?

The number of sessions required varies depending on:

  • The duration and severity of symptoms

  • Overall health and resilience

  • Individual response to treatment

  • Some people notice changes within a few sessions, while others benefit from a longer-term treatment plan. Progress is reviewed regularly.
