Cranial Osteopathy.

What is cranial (or craniosacral) Osteopathy?

Cranial Osteopathy is not different to Osteopathy,  it simply recognizes the importance of the subtle mechanisms at work within the head and their profound influence on the whole of the body. Cranial Osteopathy developed from the discovery in the 1930s of a small amount of intrinsic movement within the human skull bones, and its membranes.  This movement continues throughout the entire body. Every cell and all the fluids of the body express this rhythmic, involuntary movement. This mobility and motility are important factors in maintaining health and homeostasis.

Osteopaths trained in this method are able to use a refined sense of touch to assess this resting movement. The treatment involves very gentle pressure and specifically applied adjustments to the movements of body tissues throughout the body.

Cranial Osteopathy is essentially a gentle method of diagnosis and treatment, that our practitioners believe is useful for treating babies and children, as well as more complex or chronic conditions.
