Our Favourite Tips to Reduce the Development of Plagiocephaly/Flat Spots in Infants.

Tummy time from day one is the best. With every nappy change, on you, on a mat, be creative!

  • In the first few weeks alternate the way they are facing when you put them down on their backs to sleep. (A peg on the side of the cot can help you remember).

  •  Snuggle/cuddle to chest with head turned away from preference, or alternate directions.

  • Encourage (don’t force) turning to non-flat side when on floor. Place toys and yourself that way to encourage them. Talk and sing to them in this position.

  • Flip head when wearing/holding/carrying baby away from flat side (or alternate directions if no flat side).

  • Be mindful to avoid prolonged restrictive positions (eg. in a capsule).

  • If concerned, see an Osteopath who is experienced with infants. Early management is key.
